In 'Lost at Sea' i combined my fascination for old postcards with objects that wash ashore on the beach. Before newspapers were able to print photographs, picture postcards were used to show current events. Unusual events, like disasters and road accidents, were covered but also local events. Another genre is the nature photography. Beautiful romantic scenes of trees, rocks and waterfalls.
In shades of black reality seems fantasy.
The other fascination :
'found objects', preferably
found on the beach. Plastic
bottles, toys, rope, bones and
ceramics left behind by
drowned sailors. The journey
these objects travelled, from
continent to continent or
through time, took away all
outer appearances. Bottles have
lost their labels, objects are
damaged. Identities lost. At sea
they come together and intertwine,
naked and vulnerable.
